We started on the quest of living on a narrow boat in 2010. We have researched, visited people we know who live aboard, visited boat builders and Crick boat show.
Collected ideas of what we would like in our boat.
We also did a helmsmans course in 2011 with Willow Wren in Rugby, prior to our first holiday doing the Warwickshire ring, and also a winter holiday in the January of 2012.
We downsized our property in Cornwall, invested the majority of the proceeds, and eventually settled on buying a 50′ narrowboat called Breakaway.
We have spent the last twelve months getting her ready, and hope in the near future to become continuous cruisers.
Both of us are now retired and ready to start living our dream.
We have now had our boat for 5 years this year. Have lived on it full time for 2 of those years and cruised part of the network. Breakaway has been repainted in our chosen colours, and we feel she is now ours. This winter (2017/18) we decided this year to stop for the winter and live on land in our tiny house in Cornwall. Travelling resuming again in March.
